Virtual Events have been held in Second Life for many years and many purposes; fundraisers, cross-media events (TV appearances, concerts), virtual conventions & more have all been held with success.
Possibilities & Benefits:
- Raise worldwide awareness about a given cause
- Allow visitors to participate in an event virtually which they might not otherwise be able to in real life
- Connect members of your cohort from around the world.
Limitations:
- Capacity: By design, each full-sized Second Life region can hold as high as 100 users at a time, although it’s recommended that this be limited to 50, for viewer performance reasons. Depending on what the ultimate goal is, there are a number of workarounds, but these should be discussed before any investment is made in terms of acquiring land to build your project.
