Home, Garden and Patio Expo

This weekend, amidst a bunch of activities afk, I’ll be setting up a build at the HG&P Expo, which will be running from May 4th thru May 10th, 2009.  The show features 4 sims full of prefab, furniture, landscaping, and more, with charity items collecting donations for Relay for Life.  There will be a number of silent auction items as well as ongoing classes all week for those who are interested. More info to come.

For those who’d like to catch up with what Organica is doing at the Expo, I will be located in the south-west corner of the Iridium sim.  There isn’t much there just yet, but hopefully I’ll be ready in time for the opening on Monday.  More info on new releases to come very soon!

New Release – Apr. 8, 2009.

Quite a bit of space was added to the main store today in preparation for future releases. I’ve also been shuffling things around and probably will continue to do so until the store seems a little more organized to me.  If you miss something in the meantime though, let me know, and I’ll be glad to point you in the right direction.

With that said, I’d like to share with you the latest release, which has been a long time coming, since they were suggested to me back in December.

Yes, tulips are now available at Organica, just in time for Spring!  Eight colour/varieties are available at this time, as seperates or as one big fatpack of everything.  As per usual, they are mod/copy.

By request, the small pond that houses the cattails at the store has also been set for sale, mod/copy.

More stuff coming later this or next week.

Everything can be picked up here:  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sylvan/188/85/914

Cheers 🙂

Sometimes you have to kill the things you love.

organicaeast

Or at least prune, so they grow back faster and better.

Such is the case with Organica East (in Lohengrin), which will be closing its doors in the near future.

This land was pretty much my last big mainland investment, and I think i bought back last year around February? My, how things have changed since then.  I had land in Bhima, then went and got the Openspace in August, and switched to a full region in January. I’ve gone from a half region tier down to about 1/8, and will be cutting down more now, if all goes well.

Organica East has always done well for me, and I came to Lohengrin at the suggestion of my good friend Stormy McCallister, who owns Another Man’s Treasure, which had a location there as well. I can only hope that our combined presence allowed for some mutual benefit between us.  But as I develop the main store further, along with Sylvan in general, I’ve found it has been more and more important for me to concentrate my attention in one location.

I’ve always offered all of the Organica East products at the main store, in any case, so anything found there before will still be available and accessible at Organica Specialty Trees.  Those looking for examples of a Japanese garden stocked with Organica products are also welcome to explore Sylvan at ground level in the north-eastern quadrant, where I’ve been working on and off on a decent (i hope) garden for overall relaxation, photoshoots, etc.

Organica East will close in one week, at which time the land will be turned over to its next owner.  If you still have a landmark for Organica East, please replace it with one made here at the Organica Main Store in Sylvan .

Thanks!

Quick update on RFL Exclusive item

Hi Folks!

This update is sort of sparse, but mostly because I wanted to get the news out about this one release while I work out a larger release aimed at mid April.

This week, I’ve released this special edition of pink tulips offered exclusively for the Relay For Life campaign.

rfl-tulips-vendor

Much like the previous flower releases, this set of flowers comes with 4 sculptie shapes to best fit your landscape shape.  These are made of oblong sculpties, so you will need SL 1.21 or better to view them properly. They are also mod/copy/no transfer.

Though other colours will eventually be available, this particular pink will ONLY be available during the Relay for Life campaign, after which it will be shelved completely.

Chances are you or someone you know has been affected by cancer in some way. Even if not, the Relay for Life is a worthy cause to donate to.

The minimum donation on this item is $200L – which amounts to about $0.75 USD – though of course you’re very welcome to donate more if you wish.  Alternatively, if pink flowers aren’t your thing, there’s also a donation kiosk right next to the RFL vendor.

I’ll be adding more RFL items in the near future, and I’ll continue to update you about them as they are made available.

These vendors and kiosks are available at both the main store in Sylvan and Organica East.

I hope you will join me in showing your support for fighting cancer!

Boot and Jewellry Release

Greetings everyone!

Kitheres is pleased to present the following two releases for your interest:

backlaced-promo-b

Leather Backlaced Boots
These boots come with scripted texture change and resize, and include 6 colours in total.

sakura-vendor-sml

Sakura Blossom Circlet and Choker
To help celebrate the new spring season, consider adorning yourself with a cherry blossom circlet or choker!

Come on over and have a look!

New releases

True to my previous post, I’m pleased to announce that I’m releasing four new items this week.

ficus2-vendor

The second edition of Ficus trees are now available, using 6 oblong prims each, for your prim economy. These lush tropical trees are perfect for filling out a jungle or perhaps adding a vine motif to your backyard.

cattail-vendor

Cattails, available in 3 densities, great for swampy or other waterside areas are now available. They also come with some supplemental sedge grass in two shades, appropriate for summer and autumn.

cherry3-vendor

A lighter prim edition of cherry tree is now available, now with and without falling petals! (Previous editions did not have particle generators) For falling petals, simply rez the ‘with particles’ edition. You can click it to turn them on/off. To conserve client and server resources, however, it is recommended that you use the particle emitting trees sparingly.

bamboo-vendor

Lastly, I’ve released some bamboo, also featuring oblong sculpts in their design. These are great additions to an eastern-themed garden either to help fill out an empty space or to provide a unique backdrop.

Recent visitors to the main store will also note that I have added some space for new trees. Hopefully this will last us for some time, however i might well add an additional level for new product (or simply retire and entirely remove old discount product). I will also likely try to fix up Organica East as best I can, as things have been getting rather crowded there of late.

That’s about it!

Thanks to all of you for your ongoing support and feedback 🙂

Playing catchup on releases since December

I’ve been a bad blogger and not kept this update blog as up to date as i’d prefer.

December and January were both busy months. On top of the flower and spruce tree releases, there was the Openspace/Homestead debacle, which really put me in the situation where I was really getting tired of being asked to pay more for a smaller resource.  That’s what the Homestead issue was about, after all. Punishing everyone for the sins of a few, driving up costs and restricting usable assets.  The whole problem was really poorly handled and were it not for a friend who himself was removing his presence from SL, I would not have gone ahead with  the huge jump and invested in his last remaining full region.

A Winter party was held mid December, and about a week to week and a half afterward, Sylvan was torn down in prep for the move to the new sim, which was renamed to Sylvan and transferred to my possession at the beginning of January.

Since then, it’s been a slow rebuild. I decided to redesign Sylvan entirely – Organica now rests about 900m in the air, I’ve added a build for Kitheres, which is home to my skin and avatar products, and everything at ground level is non-commercial.  There will be a small live music venue that might see use if i have the time.  There’s also a quiet sandbox in the southwest quadrant for folk to make use of if they wish.    The rest of the sim has been seeing lots of terraforming and landscaping, and is basically my testing ground for new product.

With that said, here are the releases that have been put out since my last update:

swampcypress-vendor

Bald Cypress trees are now available in three sizes – two megaprim sizes and one normal. Each tree is 3 prims and uses ratioed/oblong sculpts.  To view, you will need Second Life viewer 1.21 or better.

japanesemaple1-vendor

Japanese Maples are also now available, in two deep shades, perfect for your garden.  Each tree is 3 prims and uses ratioed/oblong sculpts.  To view, you will need Second Life viewer 1.21 or better.

Please do pop over and have a look!

The new Organica can be found here:  http://slurl.com/secondlife/Sylvan/188/85/914

More products are on their way, probably within the week.  Sit tight and keep an eye on this blog, or join the subscribomatic for inworld updates, located just next to the Organica sign at the main store.

On Recent Inquiries

There have been a quite number of inquiries lately about the provision of my sculpts as full-perm items. Whether for use on other grids or for resale.

I’m afraid the answer has and will continue to be no.

I don’t mind if you want to modify existing content for your own use – that’s why pretty much everything is copy/mod. But a lot of time and effort gets put in on products at Organica – I don’t use prebought sculpts for resale – every sculpt you see on the grounds is custom made. All textures are custom made – sometimes combining photos and brushwork, but lately just all brushwork.

Organica is as much a business as a hobby for me at this point. It now provides the sole income for my full region sim – it’s no longer an Openspace/Homestead as the costs outweighed the benefits and I decided to take it to a full region in January. I have a little money in reserve to keep the island running for a little while, but between available time to make new product, advertising to keep traffic going, handling the background business matters, working on Kitheres products, as well as doing the actual work i get paid for, it’s a struggle to make ends meet simply to keep the sim around doing something I love.

As such, it’s really discouraging for folks to essentially contact me outright wondering if it would be OK to undermine my business with my own products.

I am, and will always be, open to suggestions about things to release. I have frequently taken suggestions from customers and gone on to release requested trees and plants. This isn’t something that’s going to change.

I am also, and will always be, willing to give a helping hand to those who are seeking help creating their own sculpties – you need only ask. I think setting up a dedicated session to discuss and teach how to use Blender for Second Life would be fun.

But I am *not* open to giving folk a free step up to sell my products as their own. I may at some point provide full permission builders tools for inclusion in larger builds, but that is dependent, again, on time and demand, and the cost will not be low.

Returning to the topic at hand, however, have you ever heard that famous quip about the fish?

It goes something like:

‘Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Show a man how to fish and he will eat for a lifetime’

Well, I’d rather not give folks fish to eat for a night. Ask me instead to teach you how how to fish, and perhaps I’ll be open to that suggestion instead.

Updates and thoughts on opening

Light 1
It’s been a while since I last updated!

Things are coming along decently – if you’ve been following the Flickr feed, you’ll likely have seen updates along the lines of makeups, finalised skin tones, and some promo shots. The train is finally moving, but there are many things to do before I can really say these are ready for release. Continue reading Updates and thoughts on opening
